Short Sighted Cinema

The brilliant Short Sighted Cinema who encourages and promotes short films and their makers. The 18th of February saw the last free entry event at the Ritzy in Brixton. Short Sighted Cinema has been filling up Upstairs at the Ritzy for the past coupe of events, and Tongue Loose attended the "Gender" themed screening in December and had the pleasure of attending the wonderful "London Lives" themed event this week. In a quaint little house in the French countryside, a mother tells her children a bedtime story. In the familiar form fit for a film based on a fairy tale, our off-screen maternal narrator recalls the story of The Beauty and the Beast whilst the visuals and cinematography bring the words of her voice to life.

Trailer Crush: Locke

We have NO idea what's going on, but Trailer Crush of the week had us hooked in only 1 minute and 32 seconds. We can't even imagine what the film will be like. Locke stars Tom Hardy and is out on the 18th of April. Let us know if you agree!

Initially, there was a lot to root for in Rhys Graham's teenage screwball feature, Galore, and the premise was a promising one. It is a valiant attempt at an honest portrayal of the ups and downs of the lives of a group of Australian youths in Canberra. The main players of this stage are introduced as Billie, the unapologetic wildchild, Laura, the gentle-souled daydreamer, Danny as the baby-faced skater boy and tough, misunderstood Islander kid Isaac. The film breezes through the events that take place prior to a raging bush fire that will tear through and eradicate everything they used to know as home - a roll call of drink, sex, relationships and rebellion.

With the release of the Coen brothers' latest flick Inside Llewyn Davis I was a little taken back from what I had just seen. While it is quite known how much love Tongue Loose has for the music film, this flick is quite possibly the most genius idea to come from the big screen in a while.
